Beskrivning
Our little farm called Acqua Viva (Living Water) is nestled in the mountains of Casacastalda at the Monte Della Dea at 550m.
Legend has it that in the old times offerings were given to a Goddess – “la Dea”. In fact those people had chosen a spectacular place. At the end of our fields you get a stunning view to Monte Subasio where St. Francis used to meditate with his holy Brothers. To the West you see a beautiful valley with a lake. The area is protected and rare birds like the heron come to catch fish there in the summer. In the East one marvels the beauty of Monte Cucco, the mountains of Gubbio and the Apennine chain with the snow capped tops in the blue winter skies which disappear in the clouds at 2700m (Monte Vettore).
The local villagers say that on his way to Gubbio St. Franics has passed our farmstead. If already in those days some farmer was tending his olives and goats at Acqua Viva remains uncertain. Only in the 18th century the houses of Casacastalda were documented. Our old farm house Acqua Viva, now beautifully restored, must have been already rather old then.
Our little farm Acqua Viva is situated about 800 m outside of the medieval village Casacastalda between Assisi and Gubbio at a height of 550m facing South. It is not far to walk to the bakery or send a letter from the post-office – yet it has ample distance not to be disturbed from the village. The place has a population of about 700 people (with a doctor, a bank, 2 groceries, a butcher, a bakery, a cheese shop and several other shops).
Acqua Viva consists of a well renovated old farmhouse and about 45,000 m² of land (11,12 ac).
The house has a downstairs and an upstairs (about 200 m ² altogether) connected by an inner and also by an outer staircase.
The house has central heating. Downstairs there is also floor heating. Upstairs and downstairs can be heated either with gas or with firewood. There are 2 fireplaces. The water supply is connected to the water system of the village. The house has been insulated with German wood fibre material sheets to reduce heating cost. The windows are all double pane and insulate well. There is satellite TV and access to internet.
In the garden there roses, rosemary, olive trees a beautiful valley and mountains to see.
The farm is connected to the public water supply.
Acqua Viva and the land around is covered with oak forests, small farms, olive groves, pastures and fields of sunflower and wheat. The forests hide dear, wild boar, porcupine, marten, buzzards, hoopoes all of which we have seen on our farm.
The location on google maps is wrong. Our street is not called Via Roma as indicated by google.
