Fivizzano, a beautifully historic town
Located about 332 metres above sea level, on the south-western slopes of the Apennines, in the higher lands of Lunigiana.
Given its strategic position, the town is rich in history, with cool and clean air and typical villages which serve as a reminder of their historical past- castles, churches, monuments and breathtaking views to amaze in an atmosphere which inspires.
Located in northern Tuscany, the area is heavily influenced with the different cuisines that surround it- from Emiliano traditions, passed down through the generations (lasagne, tortellini, ravioli, sugo di funghi, roast meats, torte d’erbi, and gnocchi) with products collected from the wild.
With the famous ski resort of Passo del Cerreto about 20 minutes away, a place full of hunting and fishing, you can take advantage of numerous trekking routes, on both foot and horseback, and long walks along the paths of the Club Alpino Italiano (CAI).
The mountains are greatly praised locally for mountaineering activities.
From the top of Mount Nuda, in the distance you can see La Pietra di Bismantova (The Rock of Bismantova).
From the mountains to the sea.
Along Via Francigena, through the hilly landscapes, from Fivizzano you can reach the stunning towns of Sarzana, Luni (with its archeological excavations), Marina di Carrara, Marina di Massa and the renowned town of Versilia, famous through the words for the Movida and the Viareggio Carnival. On the Ligurian side, just 30 minutes by car, you can reach La Spezia and the Cinque Terre (Riomaggiore, Manarola, Cornilia, Vernazza, Monterosse), with the clear sea there to make your visit magical.
FIVIZZANO is an area which was considered as a “Noble City” by the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Leopoldo II, and Gift of Florence, for it’s people and its religious and civil buildings which identified it as having a “prestigious rank” in the eyes of Leopoldo.
At the moment, the town has all the necessary amentities: shops, primary and secondary schools, a hospital, banks, a town hall and public transport to and from neighbouring cities- and yet the town still retains both a tranquil and bustling atmosphere.
There are several festivals throughout the year:
THE CHESTNUT FESTIVAL (LA FESTA DELLA CASTAGNA)- with games, contests for children and adults;
CHRISTMAS IN THE CAVE (NATALE NELLA GROTTA)- a performance of the Christmas story in the Equi Terme Caves, with scenes involving the spectators in an absolutely magical atmosphere brought by the vapours from the cave’s spa waters, which dance in the lights and colours around you.
TASTES (SAPORI) – a festival dedicated to food- get a taste of the wines, cheeses and dishes typical to Lunigiana, including medieval dances and performances from the SBANDIERATORI DEL GRUPPO STORICI DI FIVIZZANO, with musicians and characters from a world forgotten. They take their shows to America, Mexico, Guatemala, South Africa, Australia, Germany and many other spectacular global destinations, not least the January 2016 show at ‘Le Grand Prix d’Amerique’ in Paris.
DISFIDA TRA ACERI DI TERRA E CORTE- medieval re-enactment to celebrate the appearance of Madonna di Reggio in Fivizzano, who came and healed the people during a time of epidemic. It takes place the second Sunday of July. The town is divided into five districts (Terra, Montechiaro, Guardia, Fittadisio and Verrucola) which in the days leading up to the celebration organise their own celebrations. The festival takes place in the picturesque Piazza Medici, reflecting the colours, sounds and festivities which lead up to the announcement of the winning district. The town has everything you need with shops, primary and secondary schools, a hospital, a town hall and public transportation to and from neighboring cities.
We have for sale an apartment in Fivizzano, at Via Roma 81, the first floor, free from ground rental etc., with gas heating.
