Located in the hill village of Maiera the apartment overlooks the sleepy village and old town with views across the gorge to Grisolia perched atop another rocky promontory.
The vista is complete with views all the way down to the coast (some 4 km away) and out to sea over the coastal plain and Santa Maria Del Cedro.

The apartment comprises two bedrooms, bathroom. Living room and a dinning kitchen which will be left fully equipped (unlike many Italian houses when first bought). This low maintenance property of 65 square metres internal and 42 square metres external, is only some 15 years old and is one of a block of 5. Being on the upper floor of the block and surrounded to front and rear by generous balconies there is ample opportunity to sit out, relax and take full advantage of the Italian sunshine. Add in the fantastic air quality and this peaceful retreat is ideal for those who wish to enjoy some “me” time.

If it’s sun, sea and surf that is required panic not – just 4 km down the hill (about 10 minutes drive) is an endless supply of beaches which stretch some 30 miles up and down the coast from Prai a Mare in the north all the way down to Belvedere in the south. All along this main route (the SS18) are numerous small villages with the main centre of Scalea about 20 minutes away to the north. Associated with these villages are dozens of marvellous restaurants serving typical local foods ranging from an endless supply of fish to meats and salads to suit all tastes. Coupled with copious amounts of reasonably priced wines (and food) taken in the company of a fairly large group of ex pat Brits, Canadians (and increasingly Americans – with the odd Australians and Irish) a night out is never a disappointment.

The apartment, priced at euros 50,000, includes the fully fitted kitchen, fully installed gas central heating (and boiler) and certain items of furniture. The apartment is relatively cheap to run costing currently about euros 1,200 a year which includes all utilities, insurances, local taxes and rubbish collection. We can also recommend the services of an English speaking agent who for a modest fee per year is worth his weight in gold. No need for an expensive mind numbing Italian bank or post office account, our agent will take care of making sure all bills are paid promptly and will deal with all the bureaucratic palaver that can be thrown at you – and there can be a lot.

The local Italians are extremely friendly and more than happy to welcome you into the village life. Off road parking adjacent to the apartment is available and with the next door neighbour and locals across the way the apartment is watched and there are no worries with this lock up and leave property.
The village itself has a very good Pizzeria, in walking distance, which during winter serves excellent pizzas but in summer they do branch out to serve other fare. Just along the road from Maiera is another village which also has an excellent restaurant.
Maira has a butchers, greengrocers and a small supermarket in addition to a pharmacy and post office. Once a week , Wednesdays, a market is set up that sells cloths, fruit and veg,  small tools etc.
Maiera is also served by a local bus which runs twice daily up and down the hillside to the beautiful seaside town of Diamante. Here you can find not only numerous restaurants and bars but also shops and a decent sized supermarket.
