Frederick built his palatium in 1200 to control the Saracens, deported from Sicily to Lucera, that was later transformed into a Muslim citadel. The fortress was built by Charles of Anjou and completed in 1283.
Lucera is situated in the Tavoliere delle Puglie at the foot of the Gargano; it is about 58 km from San Giovanni Rotondo (town of Padre Pio), not far from the famous and beautiful coast of Gargano.
